Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking at the TaxTonic webinar with Taxsutra on promoter frameworks and succession planning.
The session covered four themes.
– The first was succession as a question of social, commercial, regulatory, and tax realities taken together.
– The second was the architecture of ownership and governance, anchored in a Master Framework Agreement.
– The third was the toolkit of wills, trusts, HUFs, gifts and settlements.
– The fourth was the point at which family arrangements meet corporate vehicles, where the protection the law extends to the family does not always extend to the company. The attached slides summarise the ground covered.
Many of these themes are developed at greater length in my book, From Founder to Framework, which approaches succession as a matter of institutional design rather than of sentiment, or of law and tax alone.
